Inner Authority

The Art of Speaking Up

Learning to hear your own voice among all the others helps you receive wisdom without handing away your authority, so your choices and creations can carry the unmistakable fingerprints of you.

Start here if you trust the room more than you trust yourself.

Dear Creator,

There are a lot of voices in this life.

Some belong to people we love and trust. Some come from people who genuinely know more than we do. Others have been with us for so long that we may not even recognize them as someone else's anymore. They sound like our own thoughts, our own rules, our own definition of what is wise or responsible or true.

And then, in the middle of all that, there is us. I've spent a surprising amount of my life looking outside myself for answers. I love learning, and I love a wise person with a strong opinion.

But I also know what it feels like to hand someone else more authority than I meant to. Sometimes their certainty sounded more convincing than my questions. Other times, I didn't even realize I was doing it.

I think that's where Inner Authority and creativity meet. Self-trust doesn't require certainty. There are things I know deeply and plenty I simply don't know yet. I can listen to someone else's wisdom and realize they are right. I can let a new idea change me without disappearing inside it.

There will always be other voices in the room. I want to hear them. I just want to remember I'm in there too.

Creatively yours,
Ansley
